Critic by the notable art consultant Nikos Stathoulis
Spiros Theodoropoulos is a devastated artist, considering the fact that he tries to expound incomprehensible and mysterious concepts using the brush, even in the absolute Light.
A whole life full of concepts which ended up being conventional within the framework of thoughts and hands of many people, now come into being thanks to the work of the artist.
He himself constitutes a special case of artist, whose work consists in a system of findings, the function of which balances the edifice of philosophical beliefs from an architectural point of view. His ideas constitute the concerns which we all have; our queries; our questions as regards the relationship to the origins of the world... our being. The work of Spyros Theodoropoulos expounds whatever the imagination can apprehend in our personal path on the planet, may it be in a graphic or sometimes descriptive manner, without calculating the abstract shapes that the viewer is expected to surmise on his behalf.
I would say that, by means of this cosmogony theme, the artist is supposed to give a blow to an almost exclusively kept heritage by the science and religion. Does he accomplish it? Partly he does... since it focuses on sources with which we are familiarized and which bring to the foreground standards that have naturalized in our common subconscious for centuries till now. His themes are archetypal and everlasting. They constitute fragments of our memory and our distant past. His work is extremely autobiographical. It raises questions; it causes stress; fear; discomfort. They seem to come from the chaos; nevertheless, they carry a strange internal order. They are the cry of an artist who knows how to keep silent in the rest of his life. His works seem to be in motion; they can be seen from many perspectives. The colours his uses vibrate while used in a wasteful way. His painting allows him to live his fears again, to evoke them by bringing them to life. Therefore, the fears can be removed. They, then, become a truth and, what is more, a unique truth. If the art is a guarantee for mental health, then the path is arduous. This happens because it dramatically coincides with the relation of another life led within the framework of the present life... This is the unintelligible question posed by the artist in this very personal journey. The human presence provides substance to the chaos of time, to the consideration of the world and of our imagination.
